ABOUT

Maisha Barnett is a built environment practitioner dedicated to building a better world through planning and design. She has strengths in leadership, project management, research, budgeting, placemaking, team building, strategic thinking, and design thinking.

​She presently serves on the Seattle Public Art Advisory Committee and concurrently holds the roles of Historic Preservation Specialist, family historian, and community organizer.

Studio Jupiter, led by Maisha Barnett, was created to exhibit her community and built environment initiatives. Her pursuits are guided by a dedication to community-driven development, cultural preservation, pedestrian-friendly design, and contextualized research. She holds a BA in Community, Environment & Planning, a minor in Urban Design & Planning, and a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the University of Washington.

Maisha is a strong proponent of parks and open spaces and has served on several citywide committees, including:

  • 2003 - 2006 | 2000 Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee

  • 2006 - 2009 | King County Parks Citizen Oversight Board

  • 2008 | Parks & Green Spaces Citizens' Levy Advisory Committee

  • 2015 - 2016 | Seattle Park District Community Oversight Committee

 

A key contributor to the development of public open spaces, she managed projects for the Friends of Jimi Hendrix Park, Founded and managed Powell Barnett Legacy Project, and contributed to the Friends of Waterfront Seattle. Her dedication to public open spaces led her to being honored as the 2018 Seattle Parks and Recreation Denny Award Superintendent's recipient.
