The legacy of John Newington Conna extends from Texas to Alaska, with a lasting impact in what is now the state of Washington, known in 1883 as Washington Territory when John arrived with his wife and children. On October 13, 2023, the descendants of John and Mary Conna gathered to celebrate their lives as Pacific Northwest African American pioneers near the 157.07 acre homestead purchased by John (between 1895 - 1890) in what is now the City of Federal Way.
